Hello Copenhagen!! My wife and I are traveling to your fine city for two weeks in Scandinavia in early June from Florida, USA. This trip is most likely our last big vacation before we start trying for children. We are early 30s and trying to plan the best trip possible. Does distortion go first?

As a guitarist, you know that the order of effects pedals in your signal chain can have a big impact on the overall sound of your guitar. While there's no one-size-fits-all approach to ordering your pedals, there are some general guidelines that can help you achieve the tone you're looking for. In this post, we'll discuss the best way to order your guitar pedal signal chain, including where to place fuzz and treble boosters.

How many people go to distortion?

Go to copenhagen

I have never visited a festival that caused my reptile brain to go into survival mode. After entering any stage - except 170bpm Trance Stage (which also caused slight panic’ish feelings, on purpose though) - one became part of one big mass that crushed each other. Positive: If you would have had an heart attack, the constant pushing gave you a cardiac massage for free.

How many people attend distortion?

If it’s your first time looking into Distortion, you might be confused as to whether it’s a music festival or a street party. It’s a bit hard to classify because it’s an event that doesn’t fit perfectly into a box.

If you love yourself some dance music, don’t mind a bit of friendly organised chaos, and are ready to get up close and personal with like-minded peeps, Distortion is right down your alley.

But here are a few more reasons to add it to your calendar:

Can you bring a 12 pack of beer on a plane?

You know how Dramamine prevents and cures motion sickness? You know how you kind of feel like you have motion sickness when you’re hungover? Connect the dots. Dramamine eases your hangover, and at the very least, prevents it from getting worse while your traveling. An added bonus is that it makes you sleepy, so you can just pass out as soon as you’re on the plane and sleep the hangover away. Yay.

If you don’t already have a stash of Pedialyte somewhere, go get some, and you’re welcome. You’re hungover because drinking dehydrates you and steals all of your electrolytes…just like what happens to babies when they have vomiting and diarrhea. Gross. Restoring electolytes kind of helps…but not immediately, so feel free to skip to the more practical, immediate solutions.

I don’t care what anyone thinks, if you’re at the level of hungover where you’re contemplating changing your flight, you need to just have another drink. Commonly referred to as, the “hair-of-the-dog” trick, take a drink of whatever you were drinking the night before…no matter how terrible it might sound at the moment. It works.

Where do you put distortion in a signal chain?

Signal chain is central to getting the best from a rig. Think of it as the epic journey of an audio signal from the guitar jack to an amp. Just as a great recipe adds ingredients in the correct order, optimizing pedal order lets each effect shine. At the same time, it circumvents a muddied, cluttered, and unprofessional tone.

Where do you put distortion?

While better is of course subjective and there are exceptions (yes you are right about the MT-2 Metal Zone that is the ONE 'dirt' pedal aside from a few 'few amp in a box pedals' that tend to work better if you plug input direct into them and then take output into the fx return bypassing the preamp completely. I wouldn't say its horrible in front, but it gets a bad wrap because most people dial the settings poorly although a few component changes can make it sound real good... check out Colin of CSGuitars videos on youtube about the pedal) 99% of the time you put tone effects in front of the amp and time based effects in the fx loop. Look for "perfect pedal order" by Steve Vai on YouTube for example. He is a certifiable expert.

The main exception to this is if you are getting your entire distortion tone from pedals in which case you can start putting things like the chorus pedal after that but in front of the amp... ultimately you can do anything, but if you are using a distortion circuit / tube clipping in the preamp it will be applied to your modulated signal which is usually not what you want, and in the case of delays and reverbs likely not what you want ( since the softer repeats and reverberations will likely barely be distorted and sound almost clean compared to fx loop were you are repeating and reverberating a possibly heavily distorted sound)

Did Kurt Cobain use distortion?

Kurt started off with the BOSS DS-1 (link to Amazon for price and details), which is one of the most popular distortion pedals of all time. In the albums Bleach and Nevermind, most of the distortion you hear is from a DS-1. At some point, Kurt switched from the DS-1 to the BOSS DS-2. In the albums In Utero and MTV Unplugged in New York, you’ll hear the DS-2.

There are a couple of differences between the DS-1 and the DS-2 as shown below:
